Renderings of a Second Skeleton
3D print (plaster and calcium phosphate powder, sealed with epsom salt). European Ceramic Workcentre 6 weeks pilot CAD-CAM (computer aided design and manufacturing) residency 's-Hertogenbosch (NL).
Renderings of a Second Skeleton is a series of sculptures investigating the ossification of the human bone as seen in the rare genetic disease Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP). Emphasizing on the efforts and errors in medical model (re)construction of 3D anatomy as a true representation of reality, the computerized processing from patient scan to model often generates errors adding an artificial growth to the models.
